The historic Billings and Spencer building in Hartford, CT began as a tool forge over one hundred years ago, manufacturing beautiful drop iron wrenches. It has since been converted to apartments and is owned by the Melville Charitable Trust. Billings Forge Community Works, established by the Trust, is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the residents of Billings Forge and starting innovative programming aimed at sparking revitalization and investment in our Frog Hollow neighborhood.

The Farmers’ Market at Billings Forge was created in 2007 as a seasonal weekly market (April through October) who’s aim is to provide the residents of Billings Forge with access to fresh, local food and to serve as a diverse meeting space from which to draw new people and life into the Frog Hollow neighborhood. Located on Broad Street between Capital Avenue and Russ Street, the market is in the green space next to from the Firebox Restaurant.

Between 2008 and 2009, The Farmers’ Market at Billings Forge has doubled its sales to become Hartford’s largest farmers’ market. Our farmers and food artisans come from all over Connecticut to sell their fresh and delicious goods directly to the consumer. In addition to produce, fruits, and flowers we also feature excellent breads, dairy, locally made Italian ice, eggs, jams, pickles, soaps, and locally roasted coffees. This year, we will also be featuring products from our own on site garden! Please visit our Vendors page to learn more about the families, artisans, and entrepreneurs who join us every week.

The Farmers' Market at Billings Forge accepts EBT/Food Stamps, credit, and debit. Come join us at our picnic tables for lunch, live music and a rotating array of local artists and craftspeople.
